Demystifying Hypnosis

There are several myths about medical hypnosis that create misunderstandings about how it works and its effectiveness:

  • Loss of control: Many people believe that under hypnosis, they will lose control and do things against their will. In reality, you remain aware and in control during hypnosis, and you won’t do anything that goes against your values or desires.

  • Hypnosis is mind control: This myth suggests that the hypnotist can control your mind or make you reveal secrets. Hypnosis cannot force you to do anything you don’t want to, and you can stop the session at any time.

  • Only weak-minded people can be hypnotized: Hypnosis works on individuals who are open to the process, regardless of their mental strength or intelligence. In fact, people with strong focus and imagination can be more easily hypnotized.

  • You might get "stuck" in hypnosis: Some fear they won’t be able to come out of a hypnotic state, but this is impossible. You can exit hypnosis at any time, and if left alone, you would naturally return to a normal state on your own.

  • Hypnosis is sleep or unconsciousness: Hypnosis is often misunderstood as being similar to sleep. In reality, you remain fully aware and conscious, with heightened focus and concentration.

  • Hypnosis can work instantly: While hypnosis can produce significant changes, it often takes multiple sessions to achieve lasting results, especially for deeper psychological or behavioral issues.
